Data methodology
This site turns a defined slice of the openFDA Drug Enforcement dataset into static, searchable pages. It does not create or classify recall information.
Source
Search records come from the openFDA Drug Enforcement Reports API, which publishes data from the FDA Recall Enterprise System. Event pages are generated from the FDA's Recalls, Market Withdrawals, & Safety Alerts announcements and link back to the original FDA notice.
Coverage and freshness
The current snapshot covers report dates from September 23, 2024 through September 23, 2026 and contains 1,531 records.
The openFDA snapshot and FDA announcement index are checked daily for changes. The event generator creates a stable annual URL for newly detected drug announcements. openFDA describes the underlying enforcement dataset as updating approximately weekly, so a daily check does not imply daily source updates.
Normalization
Artifact4U preserves the recall number, report date, classification, status, product description, reason, code information, recalling firm, and distribution pattern. Where openFDA provides harmonized fields, the site also indexes generic names, brand names, and product NDCs.
Search behavior
Search is a case-insensitive substring match across the fields above. It happens in your browser; the query is not sent to an Artifact4U server.
Recall alerts
Alerts are topic subscriptions, not real-time medical warnings. A confirmation email is required before enrollment. When a newly published event page matches a subscribed topic, the notification links to both the generated summary and the original FDA notice. Delivery delays and incomplete source data remain possible.
Known limitations
- The site covers a rolling 24-month window, not the full historical database.
- Some records do not include harmonized drug names or NDCs.
- No matching result is not proof that a product is unaffected.
- Enforcement data should not be used alone to issue alerts or track the full lifecycle of a recall.
